Tis the season of Hit and Runs

Ah life just when you feel its going so well something happens to bring you back down to earth. This happened on Saturday evening. Mr. Roamer had ran out to get us a late night snack.* I remember thinking he was taking too long. Just imagine you are busy typing away on your computer. When you hear that your husband(wife) was just in a car accident. This is what happened to me. It had happened right around the corner. I literally ran out the door heart racing... Is he alive? While simultaneously calling his phone. I turned the corner multiple cop cars there,I was searching for his car, searching for him. I was still running when I finally saw him. I ran until I reached him, We met with a…

Over 100K paid off in 3.5 years

When I started this blog, Traveling Wallet, I wasn't in the death grip of debt. Actually I was about to make my escape. I have written a few posts about my debt and my repayment journey.  But I really wanted to take the time and give you the whole big picture. When I look at the numbers it just really amazes me. And I think its inspirational. That is why I am sharing. Like I've said before when I graduated I had a ball and chain of student debt attached to me to the tune of $46,695. With $10k of it at a horrendous rate of 10.75%. Can you say Wow! But that wasn't all. I had a car and no mechanical experience. To translate I knew nothing about this…

401K I like you more then Presents

A bit a ago I wrote this article about the 401k and how we would use it. I think it wasn't super clear so let me paraphrase. I talked about how I had an ah ha moment, that I didn't have to wait until next year to max out my 401k, that I could do it now.  For this year! Well at the end I said I would make the changes which I made. Well Mr. Roamer then asked, I thought we were already maxing them out. No sorry honey, like I mentioned in the previous post I had done the math for 12 months of contributions. Or I guess a rolling 12 months. But that's not how taxes work so if we want to max it out for this…

Got Interest? Making your money work hard for YOU

We are all looking for the holy grail, passive income and interest growth is the first step. I've been managing money for longer then I realized. I thought it started after I graduated college but really it was before then. It was really in high school. I use to have an account at a credit union that I rarely had access to. It was 2 cities away and it's were I kept my emergency money. How funny to look back now and realize I always had an emergency fund. This was the money I had saved while growing up.  It totaled $1,000 but it fluctuated up an down but I almost always had at least $700. It was my child hood account, so I had no debit card for it…

Goals

When I was at university I started to make goals every quarter. I typed them up and printed them, so I could see them. Life has changed.  It's more hectic with family. I kept at the practice and even learned to make better goals. These are know as SMART goals (S-specific, M- measurable, A- attainable, R- relevant, T- timely). Consider using this framework. This is a dynamic page. It will change. I will add and cross off, new and  completed Traveling Wallet goals. The Perpetual Goal is that our family is working toward FIRE. Financial Independence, Early Retirement by age 40. Current Year Goals Below you can find my 2023 goals that overlap and target one or more of the following areas. Business, Speaking, Lifestyle, Financial and Relationships. I tend…

First Understand, Then Escape Plan

I. So, since the last post, there was lots of time to accept the challenge and calculate your financial health by figuring out your net worth. Lots of articles these days claim Americans are in a sorry state financially so maybe(and very likely) the numbers you saw didn't leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. Nope they most likely  made you feel upset and maybe even angry.  The uncomfortable truth for many is plain and easy to see. Maybe the idea of ignorance is bliss jumps to your head, but before you go dig your head in the sand realize the awesome power of knowledge. I know a little ditty that goes " If you can't see , you don't know,  and if you don't know you can't control" The great…

First things First

Now The best place to start is at the beginning. Before we can dream about staying home with our kids and supporting them as they develop into amazing human beings. Or dreaming about telling our bosses they can shove it because we have a steady stream of passive income. Or even before we plan that 3 day weekend to Las Vegas we really need to understand where is our money going. REALLY UNDERSTAND. How long have you been working? What do you have to show for all that time? What are you worth? You know financially. Have you thought of it before? If not its a good time to start. I personally have been reading financial blogs and articles for a while now. I devour the information hungrily and even…
